Discovery Room for Groups
The Discovery Room enhances any museum visit! There are very few "Don't Touch" signs here. Touchable objects and exhibitions make learning fun and science an exciting adventure. For more information about the Discovery Room, call 412.622.1950 or email KellyR@carnegiemnh.org.
The Discovery Room is sponsored by Agora Cyber Charter School, powered by K12.
Discovery Room materials include:
• Theme-based Discovery Boxes
• Microscopes
• Live invertebrate and vertebrate animals in aquariums
• Touchable vertebrate mounts and skeletons
• Touchable fossils and minerals
• A Pennsylvanian seasonal tree with animal residents
• American Indian, Ancient Egyptian, modern African, and other cultural artifacts
Group Visits
Tuesday–Friday throughout the school year, the Discovery Room may be reserved for 30-minute sessions. One group may use the room during each 30-minute session. A maximum of 120 children can be accommodated in one day.

One adult per five children
Fee
$1 per child; $25 minimum fee per group
An introductory packet to the Discovery Room will be mailed two to three weeks prior to the date of the visit.

Archaeology Assistant
Inquiry-based research uses artifacts from modern Africa, ancient Egypt, and North America to determine their cultural origin.
Upper Elementary
Fleshing Out Fossils
What did dinosaurs and other prehistoric life really look like? How do we know? Use fossils and activities to make your own discoveries about dinosaurs in their world.
Discovery Room Hunt
Understand the complex diversity of life around a Pennsylvania tree, in a tropical rainforest, or in the sea. Discover how people from different cultures lived in the past and how they live now.
Lower Elementary
Discovering Dinosaurs
Hands-on activities help students imagine the prehistoric world of dinosaurs and the life that surrounded them.
Nature's World
Identify organisms that live together in at least two different ecosystems. Discover differences between cultures from the past and present.
Math Matters
Use problem-solving skills to weigh, measure, and estimate in this engaging math activity. (Available September–March)
Wintertime Wonders
Focus on how animals and plants survive the cold climates of Pennsylvania’s winters and the Canadian Arctic. (Available December–February)

Tot Trail
Use flashlights to reveal animals hidden among the roots of the Discovery Tree, assemble dinosaur puzzles, compare hard and soft items from nature, and more. |
